About Us

The Teacher Selection Project (our research arm) and EduSelect (our commercial arm) are based at the University of York.

Our project has two main goals. The first goal is to transform how prospective teachers are recruited and selected into teacher education programs using new and innovative evidence-supported methods. The second goal is to create reliable and valid ways to develop the ‘classroom readiness’ of teacher candidates to better prepare them for classroom teaching. Our overarching goal is to improve teacher effectiveness resulting in better student outcomes.

Our selection methods have been piloted across the globe with over 20,000 applicants in partnership with teacher education providers in the UK, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Australia, Malawi, and Peru. Our team, with expertise in educational and organisational psychology and teacher education, works closely with partners to develop contextualised, valid, reliable and fair methods to recruit, select, and develop teachers.

Our original funding came from Canada’s SSHRC, and more recently from the European Research Council through a Consolidator grant and a Proof of Concept grant.

He has received multiple grants as Principal Investigator from a range of funders, including SSHRC (Canada), the Spencer Foundation (US), and the European Research Council (ERC).
